We are seeking an experienced Accountant for a contract opportunity in San Francisco, CA. This role is ideal for an accounting professional with strong full-cycle accounting, auditing, governmental accounting, GAAP, and financial reporting experience.
The Accountant will support accounting operations across multiple divisions, prepare journal entries, reconcile general ledger accounts, assist with financial statements, and participate in audit activities. Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accounting records across multiple organizational divisions, including administration, development, and operations.
- Prepare and post recurring and non-recurring journal entries, including accruals, allocations, cash activity, capital assets, debt service, accounts receivable, and accounts payable.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts and subsidiary ledgers, resolving discrepancies related to invoices, purchase orders, encumbrances, and retention.
- Review financial activity across accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, inventory, and capital assets for accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare monthly financial reports and assist with the production of financial statements.
- Support internal and external audits, compliance reviews, physical inventories, and cash audits.
- Maintain accurate accounting records and support full-cycle accounting functions.
- Prepare journal entries, reconciliations, monthly reports, and financial statement support schedules.
- Review financial activity across multiple accounting areas, including A/P, A/R, payroll, inventory, and capital assets.
- Support financial, compliance, and performance audits while ensuring adherence to accounting standards and policies.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a closely related discipline, or additional recent qualifying experience substituted on a year-for-year basis in lieu of a degree.
- At least 4 years of progressive experience in full-cycle accounting or auditing with intermediate complexity.
- Proficiency in governmental accounting, GAAP, and accounting cycles.
- Knowledge of GASB standards, federal and state regulations, and financial policies.
- Ability to reconcile accounts, research discrepancies, and communicate findings clearly.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, analytical ability, and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to respond professionally to internal and external inquiries and explain accounting procedures to staff, auditors, and external agencies.
- Ability to work in a typical office setting, communicate in person and by phone, read printed materials and computer screens, and routinely use computers, telephones, and office equipment.
- Ability to travel to local facilities as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a public transportation agency or public sector environment.
- Participation in the Certified Public Accountant licensure process.
- Experience with governmental reporting requirements such as NTD, FHWA, or State Controller’s Office reporting.
- Experience documenting and maintaining internal accounting procedures and workflows.
