A government organization in Pauma Valley, CA is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant for a temporary, full-time assignment. This Accountant role will primarily support full-cycle accounts payable while assisting with reconciliations, general ledger activity, audit documentation, and month-end close tasks. Key Responsibilities
- Process full-cycle accounts payable transactions, including invoice review, coding, approvals, and payment support.
- Perform account reconciliations, research discrepancies, and maintain accurate financial records.
- Support month-end and year-end close activities, including journal entries and general ledger review.
- Assist with audit preparation, documentation requests, and compliance-related accounting support.
- Maintain financial records in accordance with established accounting procedures and government accounting standards.
- Provide general accounting support to the finance team as needed.
Compensation and Benefits
- Pay: $38 to $39 per hour, depending on experience.
- Schedule: Full-time, Monday through Friday.
- Assignment type: Contract/temporary.
- Location: Pauma Valley, CA.

- Complete account reconciliations and assist with discrepancy resolution.
- Support month-end close, year-end close, and general accounting activities.
- Maintain accurate financial records and assist with audit documentation.
- 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably as a Staff Accountant or in a similar role.
- Strong knowledge of accounts payable processes.
- Solid understanding of general accounting principles, including general ledger, reconciliations, and journal entries.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with pivot tables and VLOOKUP preferred.
- Experience using accounting systems, preferably Sage Intacct.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and follow-through.
- Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and complete tasks with minimal supervision.
- Professional communication skills and the ability to support internal finance and accounting teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting month-end close processes.
- Familiarity with fund accounting or government accounting practices.
- Experience working in a government, public sector, or regulated accounting environment.
