Job Summary

A part-time Accountant opportunity is available with a government agency in Calabasas, CA. This temp-to-hire role is ideal for an accounting professional with strong general ledger, financial reporting, payroll, and grant accounting experience who is looking for a stable, mission-driven work environment.

The Accountant will support the accounting team with key financial operations, including journal entries, ledger maintenance, year-end account review, financial statement preparation, payroll, grant spending oversight, and audit support. Key Responsibilities

- Prepare journal entries and maintain the general ledger and subsidiary ledgers.
- Perform year-end account reviews and assist with financial close processes.
- Prepare financial statements and support accurate financial reporting.
- Process payroll and assist with related accounting functions.
- Monitor grant spending to help ensure compliance with grant requirements.
- Assist outside auditors by preparing schedules, documentation, and account support.

Compensation and Benefits

- Pay range: $36.00 to $45.00 per hour.
- Job type: Temp-to-hire.
- Schedule: Part-time, 2 days per week.
- Preferred schedule: Tuesday and Thursday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
- Location: Calabasas, CA.

Required Qualifications and Skills

- Prepare journal entries, maintain ledgers, and support general accounting operations.
- Assist with year-end review of accounts and financial statement preparation.
- Manage payroll-related accounting tasks and support grant spending oversight.
- Provide documentation and support for external audit activities.

- 3+ years of accounting experience.
- Experience with grant accounting.
- Knowledge of GAAP.
- Experience with Gann limit related issues and fraud-related accounting or compliance matters.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting.
- Ability to work independently while supporting a collaborative accounting team.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines in a part-time schedule.

Preferred Qualifications

- Prior accounting experience in a government, public sector, nonprofit, or grant-funded environment.
- Experience supporting external audits and preparing audit documentation.
- Familiarity with public sector compliance, restricted funding, and financial reporting requirements.
