Accountant – Long-Term Contract (Columbia, SC)
$26–$28/hour | Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM | Potential for Permanent Hire
We’re partnering with a state department in Columbia, SC to fill a long-term Accountant position. This role offers a great opportunity to gain or continue public sector experience, with the potential to move into a permanent position with the state.
Position Overview:
The Accountant will perform full cycle accounting duties, including reconciliations, reporting, and financial analysis, while ensuring accuracy and compliance with state and departmental guidelines. The ideal candidate will have prior government accounting experience and be proficient with SCEIS software.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage full cycle accounting processes including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting
Analyze and verify financial data to ensure compliance with state and departmental policies
Prepare, review, and maintain detailed accounting records and supporting documentation
Assist with month-end and year-end close activities
Utilize SCEIS software for accounting, reporting, and data management
Collaborate with internal departments and external agencies to resolve discrepancies and ensure accuracy
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
Minimum 2–3 years of full cycle accounting experience
Government accounting experience required
Proficiency with SCEIS software required
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Excellent organizational and communication skills
