Job Title: Accountant (State Government Department)
Location: Columbia, SC
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM-5:00 PM
Pay Rate: $45,000-$55,000 annually
Type: Long-Term Temporary (Potential to become Permanent with the State)
Overview:
Our recruiting and staffing agency is seeking an experienced Accountant to support the financial operations of a state government department in Columbia, SC. This long-term temporary position offers the potential for permanent employment with the state. The ideal candidate will have prior accounting experience in a government setting and a strong understanding of public sector financial practices.
Responsibilities:
Prepare, review, and reconcile financial statements and reports
Monitor budgets and expenditures for compliance with state regulations
Assist with month-end and year-end closings
Review invoices, process payments, and manage accounts payable/receivable
Maintain accurate general ledger records and documentation
Prepare financial data for audits and assist with audit processes
Ensure compliance with state policies, procedures, and financial controls
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
At least 2 years of accounting experience, preferably in a government or public sector environment
Strong knowledge of GAAP and governmental accounting principles
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial systems
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
