Summary:
The City is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Accountant I or II to perform a variety of professional accounting duties related to the maintenance, analysis, and reporting of municipal financial records.
• Accountant I is the entry-level position performing moderately complex accounting tasks under general supervision, with room for professional growth and increasing independence.
• Accountant II is the journey-level role responsible for more complex accounting functions, working independently with a thorough knowledge of governmental accounting practices.
Key Responsibilities:
• Perform general ledger maintenance, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
• Prepare financial reports and assist in the preparation of the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR).
• Analyze and verify financial data; assist with audits and budget preparation.
• Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulations.
• (For Accountant II) Lead complex reporting assignments and provide technical guidance to junior staff.
Qualifications:
• Accountant I: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; 0–2 years of relevant experience.
• Accountant II: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; 2–4 years of increasingly responsible experience in governmental accounting.
Skills & Competencies:
• Knowledge of GAAP and governmental accounting standards.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
