Short Description:

Construction Superintendent is responsible for overseeing on-site construction activities to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and according to design specifications. They manage daily operations, supervise crews and subcontractors, and coordinate with project managers, engineers, and inspectors. The superintendent ensures compliance with safety regulations, quality standards, and project timelines. They also handle problem-solving on-site and maintain detailed project documentation. Strong leadership, communication, and technical knowledge of construction processes are essential for success in this role.

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Oversee day-to-day operations on the construction site to ensure work is completed safely, on time, and within budget
  • Supervise and coordinate activities of construction crews, subcontractors, and vendors
  • Review and interpret blueprints, project plans, and specifications to ensure work aligns with design requirements
  • Conduct regular site inspections to monitor progress, quality, and compliance with safety regulations
  • Schedule and manage daily and weekly work plans, ensuring efficient resource allocation and workflow
  • Communicate project updates, progress reports, and issues to project managers and stakeholders
  • Enforce job site safety policies and conduct toolbox meetings to maintain OSHA compliance
  • Resolve on-site problems, delays, and conflicts to minimize disruptions and maintain productivity
  • Ensure that materials, tools, and equipment are available and properly used on-site
  • Oversee project closeout activities, including punch lists, inspections, and final documentation

Skills / Requirements / Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or GED required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in construction management or a related field preferred
  • Experience: 5–10 years of experience in construction, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or superintendent role
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of construction processes, building codes, and safety regulations
  • Leadership: Proven ability to lead diverse teams, delegate tasks, and maintain a productive work environment
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for coordinating with project teams and clients
  • Problem-Solving: Skilled in identifying on-site challenges and implementing timely, effective solutions
  • Organization: Strong planning and time management abilities to manage multiple tasks and meet project deadlines
  • Software Proficiency: Familiarity with construction management tools such as Procore, Bluebeam, or Microsoft Project
