Short Description:

A Decontamination Technician completes all processes needed to sterilize reusable surgical instruments and medical devices, using manual and mechanical techniques in line with the Quality Management System.

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Checking correct instruments are on trays pre and post-decontamination.
  • Decontamination of checking for functionality.
  • Pack surgical instruments for sterilization.
  • Complete, accurate tracking systems.
  • Monitor repairs of instruments.
  • Accurately records sterilization and packing information related to designated tasks and passes it on to the relevant person.
  • Agrees with the perioperative team on the Decontamination data and information to be collected and collated.

Skills / Requirements / Qualifications

  • Experience: Experience as a Decontamination Technician within a healthcare setting.
  • Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Team Environment: Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently as required.
  • Computer Skills: Good computer skills (MS Office package).
  • Customer Service: Demonstrated customer service skills.
  • Abilities: Flexibility to work the occasional evening/night shift.
