Short Description:

A Ventilation Engineer is responsible for designing, analyzing, and maintaining ventilation systems to ensure safe airflow, air quality, and environmental control in industrial, mining, or commercial facilities. They evaluate ventilation requirements, develop system layouts, and conduct airflow modeling to optimize performance and meet regulatory and safety standards. The role involves inspecting existing systems, troubleshooting ventilation issues, and collaborating with engineering, safety, and operations teams on system upgrades and improvements. Ventilation Engineers help ensure a healthy, compliant, and efficient working environment by managing air movement and contaminant control. Strong analytical skills, technical expertise, and knowledge of ventilation standards are essential for success in this role.

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and optimize ventilation systems for industrial, commercial, or mining environments to ensure proper airflow, air quality, and regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct airflow modeling, pressure analysis, and system simulations to evaluate performance and identify needed improvements.
  • Perform site assessments, inspections, and ventilation surveys to verify that systems meet operational, safety, and environmental requirements.
  • Collaborate with engineering, project management, and safety teams to integrate ventilation solutions into facility layouts or mining plans.
  • Prepare technical drawings, specifications, and calculations for new ventilation systems or system upgrades.
  • Monitor ventilation system performance, collect data, and recommend adjustments to maintain efficiency and meet changing operational needs.
  • Troubleshoot ventilation issues, diagnose system deficiencies, and implement corrective actions.
  • Develop and maintain ventilation control plans, emergency ventilation protocols, and compliance documentation.
  • Ensure all systems adhere to relevant OSHA, MSHA, environmental, and building code regulations.
  • Support installation, commissioning, and testing of ventilation equipment such as fans, ducting, sensors, and filtration units.

Skills / Requirements / Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline required.
  • Experience: Typically 3–7 years of experience in ventilation system design, industrial ventilation, or mining ventilation.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of airflow dynamics, thermodynamics, ventilation modeling software (e.g., Ventsim), and HVAC fundamentals.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to interpret technical data, conduct airflow calculations, and analyze system performance.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with OSHA, MSHA, building codes, and industrial hygiene standards related to ventilation.
  • Problem-Solving: Skilled in diagnosing airflow and equipment issues and developing effective, safe solutions.
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills for reporting, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Safety Awareness: Commitment to safety protocols and hazard mitigation in industrial or mining environments.
