Short Description:

A Tooling Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining tools, dies, molds, and fixtures used in manufacturing processes to ensure product quality and production efficiency. They collaborate with production, design, and quality teams to optimize tooling solutions, troubleshoot issues, and implement improvements. The role involves analyzing specifications, preparing technical drawings, and overseeing the installation or modification of tooling equipment. Tooling Engineers help enhance manufacturing performance, reduce downtime, and support consistent, high-quality output. Strong engineering knowledge, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail are essential for success in this role.

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain tools, dies, molds, and fixtures used in manufacturing and production processes
  • Collaborate with design, production, and quality teams to ensure tooling meets product specifications and performance requirements
  • Conduct feasibility studies and cost analyses for new tooling projects or modifications
  • Oversee the installation, setup, and calibration of tooling equipment in the production environment
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to tool wear, defects, or malfunctions to minimize production downtime
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including drawings, specifications, and maintenance procedures
  • Evaluate and select materials, components, and suppliers for tooling projects
  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives to optimize tooling efficiency, durability, and cost-effectiveness
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, quality standards, and company procedures during tooling design and use
  • Provide training and technical support to production staff on proper use, maintenance, and troubleshooting of tooling

Skills / Requirements / Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field required
  • Experience: 3–5 years of experience in tooling design, manufacturing, or mechanical engineering
  • Technical Knowledge: Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD), manufacturing processes, and tool design principles
  • Problem-Solving: Strong ability to troubleshoot tooling issues and implement effective solutions
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to conduct cost analyses, feasibility studies, and performance evaluations
  • Attention to Detail: Accuracy in tool design, specifications, and documentation
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams and vendors
  • Safety Awareness: Knowledge of workplace safety, regulatory compliance, and proper handling of tools and machinery
