Short Description:

A Shift Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily operations during their assigned shift to ensure productivity, quality, and safety standards are met. They manage and support team members, coordinate workflow, address operational issues, and monitor performance metrics. The role involves implementing company policies, training staff, and maintaining communication with management to ensure smooth shift operations. Shift Supervisors help maintain operational efficiency, employee engagement, and customer or production satisfaction. Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills are essential for success in this role.

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily operations during assigned shift, ensuring production, service, or operational goals are met
  • Supervise, train, and mentor team members, assigning tasks and monitoring performance
  • Monitor workflow, staffing levels, and resource allocation to maintain efficiency and productivity
  • Address employee issues, conflicts, and attendance concerns promptly and fairly
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety regulations, and quality standards
  • Prepare shift reports, including production metrics, incidents, and operational observations for management review
  • Collaborate with other supervisors and departments to coordinate tasks and resolve operational challenges
  • Conduct inspections and audits to maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety of the work environment
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to streamline processes and enhance performance
  • Provide guidance and feedback to employees, fostering a positive and productive work environment

Skills / Requirements / Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree or technical certification in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health, or related field preferred
  • Experience: 1–3 years in safety, environmental, or industrial health roles
  • Technical Knowledge: Understanding of safety regulations, hazard assessment, and safety management systems
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to identify hazards and ensure compliance with safety protocols
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to assess risks and recommend effective corrective actions
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written skills for training, reporting, and collaborating with teams
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to manage inspections, documentation, and follow-ups efficiently
  • Safety Awareness: Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and industry-specific safety standards and practices
