Short Description:

A Revenue Cycle Analyst is responsible for analyzing, monitoring, and optimizing the financial and operational processes that support patient billing, reimbursement, and overall revenue performance in a healthcare organization. They review revenue cycle workflows, identify bottlenecks or errors, and provide data-driven recommendations to improve charge capture, reduce denials, and accelerate cash flow. The role involves preparing reports, validating data accuracy, collaborating with billing, coding, and clinical teams, and ensuring compliance with payer rules and regulatory standards. Revenue Cycle Analysts help improve financial outcomes, enhance operational efficiency, and support informed decision-making across the organization. Strong analytical abilities, attention to detail, and communication skills are essential for success in this role.

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) across the revenue cycle to identify gaps, trends, and improvement opportunities
  • Monitor billing, coding, claims submission, and payment posting processes to ensure accuracy and efficiency
  • Investigate claim denials, delays, and underpayments; recommend corrective actions to reduce financial losses
  • Prepare regular financial and operational reports for leadership, highlighting revenue cycle performance
  • Collaborate with billing, coding, finance, and clinical teams to streamline workflows and resolve process bottlenecks
  • Conduct audits of patient accounts, charge capture, and documentation to ensure regulatory and payer compliance
  • Support implementation or optimization of revenue cycle technologies, including EHR and billing systems
  • Develop and maintain SOPs, dashboards, and process maps to improve consistency and transparency
  • Assist in training staff on new procedures, system updates, and best practices
  • Participate in special projects aimed at improving reimbursement, cash flow, and overall revenue integrity

Skills / Requirements / Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Finance, Business, or related field preferred
  • Experience: 2–5 years of revenue cycle, medical billing, or healthcare financial analytics experience
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with Excel, EHR systems, billing software, and data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau)
  • Analytical Ability: Strong skills in data analysis, trend reporting, and problem-solving
  • Revenue Cycle Knowledge: Understanding of coding (ICD-10, CPT), billing regulations, and payer requirements
  • Communication Skills: Ability to present findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Detail-Oriented: Strong accuracy in reviewing financial and patient account data
  • Process Improvement: Experience with workflow optimization or Lean/Six Sigma methodologies is a plus
