Short Description:

A Reliability Technician is responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and improving the performance and reliability of machinery, equipment, and systems within an industrial or manufacturing setting. They perform inspections, preventive maintenance, and diagnostic testing to identify potential issues and prevent unplanned downtime. The role involves documenting findings, collaborating with maintenance and engineering teams, and supporting reliability improvement initiatives. Reliability Technicians help ensure continuous, safe, and efficient operations while extending equipment lifespan. Strong technical knowledge, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail are essential for success in this role.

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and reliability testing on machinery and equipment
  • Monitor equipment performance and operating conditions to identify potential failures or inefficiencies
  • Collect and analyze data on equipment reliability, downtime, and maintenance activities
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic issues and implement corrective actions as needed
  • Collaborate with maintenance, engineering, and operations teams to improve equipment uptime and performance
  • Assist in developing maintenance schedules, reliability programs, and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance activities, and reliability metrics in computerized systems
  • Support root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability
  • Ensure all work is performed in compliance with safety, regulatory, and quality standards
  • Provide technical guidance and training to operators and maintenance personnel on reliability best practices

Skills / Requirements / Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification or associate degree in mechanical, electrical, or industrial technology preferred
  • Experience: 2–5 years of experience in maintenance, reliability engineering, or equipment troubleshooting
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to diagnose complex equipment issues and implement effective solutions
  • Analytical Skills: Proficiency in analyzing equipment performance data and identifying reliability trends
  • Attention to Detail: Accuracy in inspections, maintenance documentation, and data reporting
  • Safety Awareness: Knowledge of workplace safety practices, lockout/tagout procedures, and regulatory compliance
  • Communication: Effective verbal and written skills for coordinating with technicians, engineers, and supervisors
