A Preventive Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing scheduled maintenance and inspections on machinery, equipment, and systems to prevent breakdowns and ensure reliable operation. They identify potential issues, replace worn components, and follow established maintenance procedures to extend equipment lifespan. The role involves documenting maintenance activities, coordinating with operations and engineering teams, and adhering to safety and regulatory standards. Preventive Maintenance Technicians help minimize downtime, reduce repair costs, and support efficient operational performance. Strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills are essential for success in this role.

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and servicing of machinery, equipment, and production systems
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic issues using diagnostic tools and testing equipment
  • Calibrate, align, and adjust equipment components according to manufacturer specifications and maintenance schedules
  • Document maintenance activities, repairs, and calibration results in service logs or computerized maintenance systems
  • Assist in equipment upgrades, retrofits, and modifications to improve functionality or efficiency
  • Collaborate with engineers, operators, and maintenance teams to identify and resolve recurring equipment problems
  • Maintain an inventory of parts, tools, and supplies needed for preventive maintenance and repairs
  • Ensure all maintenance work complies with safety, quality, and regulatory standards
  • Respond to emergency equipment failures and perform timely repairs to minimize production downtime
  • Participate in continuous training and development to stay current on equipment technology and maintenance practices

Skills / Requirements / Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification or associate degree in mechanical, electrical, or industrial technology preferred
  • Experience: 2–5 years of experience in equipment maintenance, preventive maintenance, or repair
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot complex equipment issues efficiently and accurately
  • Tools & Equipment: Proficiency in using diagnostic instruments, hand tools, and precision measuring devices
  • Attention to Detail: Accuracy in performing preventive maintenance and documenting service records
  • Safety Awareness: Knowledge of workplace safety practices, lockout/tagout procedures, and regulatory compliance
  • Communication: Effective verbal and written communication skills for coordinating with technicians, engineers, and supervisors
