Short Description:

A Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Technician is responsible for inspecting and evaluating materials, components, or structures using specialized non-destructive techniques to detect defects or ensure quality. They perform tests such as ultrasonic, radiographic, magnetic particle, or dye penetrant inspections without causing damage to the tested items. The role involves interpreting test results, maintaining detailed records, and collaborating with engineering and quality teams to support production or maintenance processes. NDT Technicians help ensure the safety, reliability, and integrity of critical components and systems. Strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and adherence to safety standards are essential for success in this role.

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Perform inspections and testing of materials, components, and structures using non-destructive techniques such as ultrasonic, radiographic, magnetic particle, dye penetrant, and eddy current testing
  • Interpret and analyze test results to identify defects, cracks, or inconsistencies without damaging the item being tested
  • Prepare testing procedures, inspection plans, and documentation in compliance with industry standards and client specifications
  • Calibrate, operate, and maintain NDT equipment and instruments to ensure accuracy and reliability
  • Collaborate with engineers, quality assurance teams, and production staff to support product integrity and safety
  • Ensure all testing activities comply with safety regulations, environmental guidelines, and quality standards
  • Record findings, generate reports, and communicate results clearly to supervisors, clients, and regulatory bodies
  • Investigate material failures or anomalies and recommend corrective actions or additional testing as needed
  • Participate in continuous training and certification programs to maintain NDT qualifications
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, including proper storage and handling of sensitive testing equipment

Skills / Requirements / Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification or associate degree in NDT, materials testing, or related field preferred
  • Experience: 2–5 years of experience in non-destructive testing in industrial, aerospace, or manufacturing environments
  • Certifications: Relevant NDT certifications (e.g., ASNT Level I or II, AWS, or equivalent) required or preferred
  • Technical Knowledge: Proficiency in NDT methods, equipment operation, and interpretation of results
  • Attention to Detail: Precision in testing procedures, documentation, and analysis of defects
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to identify issues and recommend corrective actions based on testing outcomes
  • Safety Awareness: Strong knowledge of workplace safety, radiation safety (if applicable), and regulatory compliance
  • Communication: Effective verbal and written skills for reporting findings and collaborating with engineers, QA teams, and clients
