Short Description:

A Mine Operator is responsible for operating heavy machinery and equipment to extract minerals or resources safely and efficiently at mining sites. They monitor equipment performance, conduct routine maintenance, and follow operational and safety procedures to ensure continuous production. The role involves coordinating with team members, interpreting work orders or site plans, and reporting operational issues. Mine Operators help maintain efficient mining operations while adhering to safety and regulatory standards. Strong mechanical aptitude, attention to safety, and reliability are essential for success in this role.

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Operate heavy mining equipment such as haul trucks, loaders, drills, and excavators safely and efficiently
  • Follow daily production schedules and directives from supervisors to meet mining targets
  • Perform pre- and post-operation equipment inspections, identifying and reporting maintenance needs
  • Transport mined materials from extraction sites to processing or stockpile areas
  • Monitor equipment performance, fuel levels, and load capacities to prevent operational issues
  • Adhere to safety protocols, company policies, and environmental regulations during all mining activities
  • Assist in site preparation, drilling, blasting, and material handling as needed
  • Record production data, equipment usage, and operational issues accurately for reporting purposes
  • Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and maintenance personnel regarding operations and safety concerns
  • Participate in ongoing training and safety programs to maintain operational proficiency

Skills / Requirements / Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training in mining operations preferred
  • Experience: 1–5 years of experience operating mining equipment or working in mining operations
  • Technical Knowledge: Proficiency with heavy machinery operation, mining techniques, and basic maintenance procedures
  • Safety Awareness: Strong knowledge of mining safety regulations, PPE usage, and emergency procedures
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to identify operational issues quickly and respond effectively
  • Attention to Detail: Accuracy in equipment inspections, production logging, and operational compliance
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to handle physically demanding tasks and operate machinery for extended periods
  • Communication: Clear verbal and written communication skills for coordinating with team members and supervisors
