Short Description:

A Mine Foreman is responsible for supervising and coordinating daily operations at a mining site to ensure safe, efficient, and productive extraction of minerals or resources. They manage mine personnel, oversee equipment use, and enforce safety and regulatory compliance. The role involves planning work schedules, monitoring production targets, and addressing operational challenges as they arise. Mine Foremen help maintain operational efficiency, workforce safety, and adherence to mining standards. Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills are essential for success in this role.

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Supervise daily mining operations, ensuring production targets and safety standards are met
  • Coordinate and assign work to mining crews, including equipment operators, laborers, and support staff
  • Monitor compliance with federal, state, and company safety regulations, implementing corrective actions when necessary
  • Oversee equipment maintenance and ensure proper operation of mining machinery and vehicles
  • Inspect mine sites to identify hazards, evaluate operational efficiency, and recommend improvements
  • Prepare production reports, track progress, and communicate updates to management
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate mining personnel to ensure skill development and adherence to safety protocols
  • Collaborate with engineers, geologists, and other technical staff on mine planning and workflow optimization
  • Manage inventory of tools, explosives, and materials, coordinating orders and usage to maintain operations
  • Respond to emergencies or incidents, providing leadership and coordinating recovery or remediation efforts

Skills / Requirements / Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training in mining or related field preferred
  • Experience: 5–10 years of mining experience, including supervisory or leadership roles
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of mining operations, equipment, and underground/ surface mining techniques
  • Leadership: Ability to manage, train, and motivate a team effectively under challenging conditions
  • Problem-Solving: Skill in identifying operational issues and implementing practical solutions quickly
  • Safety Awareness: In-depth knowledge of mining safety standards, OSHA regulations, and emergency procedures
  • Communication: Effective verbal and written skills for directing crews and reporting to management
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, and maintain production efficiency
