Short Description:

A Geochemist is responsible for analyzing the chemical composition of rocks, minerals, soils, and water to understand geological processes and environmental conditions. They collect and interpret samples, conduct laboratory experiments, and apply analytical techniques to support research, exploration, or environmental assessments. The role involves collaborating with geologists, engineers, and environmental teams to provide insights that inform decision-making. Geochemists help advance scientific understanding, support resource exploration, and ensure environmental compliance. Strong analytical, laboratory, and problem-solving skills are essential for success in this role.

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Collect and analyze soil, rock, water, and sediment samples to determine chemical composition and environmental impact
  • Conduct laboratory experiments using advanced analytical techniques, such as spectroscopy, chromatography, and mass spectrometry
  • Interpret geochemical data to support exploration, environmental assessments, or research projects
  • Prepare detailed technical reports, charts, and maps summarizing findings and recommendations
  • Collaborate with geologists, environmental scientists, and engineers to plan sampling strategies and fieldwork
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with environmental regulations and safety protocols during field and lab work
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for sample collection, analysis, and quality control
  • Stay current with scientific literature, methodologies, and technological advances in geochemistry
  • Participate in site assessments, remediation projects, or mineral exploration studies as required

Skills / Requirements / Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Geochemistry, Chemistry, Earth Science, or related field required; Master’s preferred for advanced research roles
  • Experience: 2–5 years of experience in geochemical analysis, environmental consulting, or mineral exploration
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in laboratory techniques, instrumentation, and geochemical modeling software
  • Analytical Skills: Strong ability to interpret complex data and draw meaningful conclusions
  • Attention to Detail: Precision in sample handling, data collection, and reporting
  • Safety Awareness: Knowledge of laboratory safety practices, hazardous material handling, and field safety protocols
  • Communication: Effective verbal and written skills for presenting technical findings to multidisciplinary teams
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot experimental issues and adapt methods to varying field and lab conditions
