Short Description:

An Environmental Technician is responsible for supporting environmental monitoring, testing, and compliance activities to protect natural resources and public health. They collect and analyze samples of air, water, soil, or waste, and maintain detailed records of findings in accordance with regulatory standards. The role involves assisting with environmental assessments, reporting, and remediation projects, as well as ensuring adherence to safety and environmental regulations. Environmental Technicians help organizations meet compliance requirements and promote sustainable practices. Strong analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills are essential for success in this role.

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Collect soil, water, air, and waste samples from field sites for laboratory analysis
  • Conduct environmental testing and monitoring in accordance with regulatory standards and project protocols
  • Operate and maintain field equipment such as water quality meters, air samplers, and soil probes
  • Record and document field observations, sampling procedures, and environmental data accurately
  • Assist in site assessments, environmental audits, and contamination investigations
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations during sampling and fieldwork
  • Prepare reports, charts, and summaries of environmental data for clients, regulatory agencies, or internal teams
  • Collaborate with environmental scientists, engineers, and project managers to support research and remediation projects
  • Follow safety protocols and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in field and lab environments
  • Participate in environmental cleanup, remediation, or mitigation projects as directed

Skills / Requirements / Qualifications

  • Education: Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Technology, or related field preferred
  • Experience: 1–3 years of experience in environmental sampling, testing, or fieldwork
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in using environmental monitoring equipment and data recording tools
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to accurately interpret field data and identify potential environmental concerns
  • Attention to Detail: Precision in sample collection, labeling, documentation, and data entry
  • Safety Awareness: Knowledge of OSHA standards, hazardous materials handling, and environmental regulations
  • Communication: Effective verbal and written skills for reporting findings and coordinating with team members
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to address field challenges, equipment issues, and unexpected environmental conditions
