A Charge Capture Specialist is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely documentation of medical services and procedures for billing and revenue cycle purposes. Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Review and analyze medical documentation to ensure accurate capture of charges for patient services
  • Enter charges into electronic health record (EHR) or billing systems promptly and accurately
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and clinical staff to clarify documentation and ensure all billable services are recorded
  • Identify missing or incomplete charge information and follow up with clinical teams to obtain necessary details
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding guidelines, billing rules, and healthcare compliance standards
  • Audit patient charts and service logs to verify charge accuracy and prevent revenue loss
  • Assist in resolving discrepancies between clinical documentation, coding, and billing entries
  • Generate reports on charge capture metrics, trends, and errors for management review
  • Support training initiatives for clinical staff on proper documentation and charge capture procedures
  • Ensure all charge capture activities comply with HIPAA regulations, organizational policies, and payer requirements

Skills / Requirements / Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, medical billing, or related field preferred
  • Experience: 1–3 years of experience in charge capture, medical billing, coding, or healthcare administration
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with EHR systems, billing software, and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Attention to Detail: High accuracy in entering and verifying patient charges and documentation
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10 coding standards and healthcare compliance requirements
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaborating with clinical and administrative staff
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to identify discrepancies and resolve charge capture issues efficiently
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple accounts, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
