A CDL Class A Driver with Hazmat is responsible for safely transporting hazardous materials and freight using a commercial vehicle in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Safely operate a commercial tractor-trailer to transport hazardous materials (HAZMAT) in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
  • Inspect vehicles, trailers, and HAZMAT equipment before, during, and after trips to ensure roadworthiness and safety compliance
  • Plan routes efficiently to meet delivery schedules while adhering to HAZMAT transport regulations and road restrictions
  • Load and unload hazardous materials, ensuring proper weight distribution, securement, and adherence to safety protocols
  • Maintain accurate delivery logs, HAZMAT shipping papers, inspection reports, and electronic logs (ELDs) for regulatory compliance
  • Respond promptly to incidents, accidents, or spills, following proper emergency procedures and reporting requirements
  • Communicate with dispatch, customers, and safety personnel regarding shipment status, delivery confirmations, and any issues encountered
  • Adhere to all safety procedures, including use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and hazardous materials handling guidelines
  • Perform routine maintenance checks on trucks, trailers, and equipment, reporting issues to the maintenance team
  • Stay current on industry regulations, HAZMAT classifications, and training requirements to ensure compliance and safety

Skills / Requirements / Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Licensure: Valid CDL Class A license with HAZMAT endorsement; current DOT medical certificate required
  • Experience: 2–5 years of experience operating commercial vehicles, preferably with HAZMAT experience
  • Technical Knowledge: Understanding of vehicle operation, cargo securement, and hazardous materials regulations (DOT, FMCSA)
  • Safety Awareness: Strong knowledge of safe driving practices, emergency procedures, and handling of hazardous substances
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to respond effectively to road incidents, mechanical issues, or HAZMAT-related emergencies
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy cargo, perform inspections, and operate vehicles for extended periods
  • Communication: Clear verbal and written communication skills for interacting with dispatch, clients, and regulatory personnel
