Short Description:

A Casting Technician is responsible for preparing, pouring, and finishing metal or plastic castings according to engineering specifications and quality standards. They operate casting equipment, monitor temperatures and material flow, and inspect finished products for defects or inconsistencies. The role involves maintaining molds, recording production data, and collaborating with production and quality teams to ensure optimal output. Casting Technicians help support efficient manufacturing processes and high-quality product production. Strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and adherence to safety protocols are essential for success in this role.

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Prepare molds, patterns, and casting materials according to specifications and production schedules
  • Operate casting equipment, furnaces, and molds to produce metal or plastic components with precision
  • Monitor temperature, material flow, and curing times to ensure quality and consistency of castings
  • Inspect raw materials and finished castings for defects, dimensional accuracy, and adherence to quality standards
  • Perform finishing operations such as grinding, trimming, or polishing cast parts to meet specifications
  • Maintain accurate production records, including batch numbers, process parameters, and inspection results
  • Troubleshoot process issues, adjust machinery settings, and implement corrective actions to reduce defects
  • Ensure all casting operations comply with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards
  • Collaborate with engineers, quality control, and production teams to optimize casting processes
  • Conduct routine maintenance on casting equipment to ensure reliable operation and prevent downtime

Skills / Requirements / Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training in manufacturing, metallurgy, or casting preferred
  • Experience: 1–3 years of experience in casting, foundry, or manufacturing environments
  • Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with casting methods, materials, molds, and related equipment
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to inspect components for defects, dimensional accuracy, and surface finish
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to identify process issues and implement effective solutions
  • Physical Requirements: Capability to lift heavy materials, stand for long periods, and work in heat-intensive environments
  • Safety Awareness: Knowledge of personal protective equipment (PPE), safety protocols, and workplace regulations
  • Teamwork & Communication: Ability to collaborate with engineers, operators, and quality personnel effectively
