A Heavy Equipment Mechanic is a skilled professional responsible for maintaining, repairing, and diagnosing issues in heavy machinery and equipment used in construction, mining, agriculture, and other industries. They play a crucial role in ensuring the reliability and functionality of equipment such as bulldozers, excavators, loaders, and cranes. Heavy Equipment Mechanics often work in workshops or on job sites to perform routine maintenance, troubleshoot problems, and conduct repairs to keep heavy machinery operational.

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in heavy equipment.
  • Conduct routine maintenance, including oil changes, fluid checks, and filter replacements.
  • Repair and replace faulty parts and components, such as engines, transmissions, and brake systems.
  • Use diagnostic tools and equipment to identify and address equipment malfunctions.
  • Collaborate with equipment operators and other team members to understand and resolve issues.
  • Keep detailed records of maintenance and repair activities.
  • Conduct inspections to identify potential problems and prevent breakdowns.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and technological advancements in heavy equipment.
  • Operate a variety of tools and equipment to perform maintenance and repairs.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and regulations in all maintenance and repair activities.

Skills / Requirements / Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or apprenticeship in heavy equipment mechanics is often required.
  • Experience: Proven experience as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic.
  • Troubleshooting: Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
  • Diagnostic Tools: Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Mechanical Systems: Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems in heavy equipment.
  • Equipment Schematics: Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals and schematics.
  • Physical: Physical fitness and stamina to handle the demands of the job.
  • Attention to Detail: Attention to detail for accurate diagnosis and repairs.
  • Communication: Strong communication skills for interacting with team members and operators.
  • Certifications: Certification in heavy equipment mechanics, such as 310T/S Class A Certification, is often preferred.
