Short Description:

A Construction Estimator is responsible for analyzing project plans, specifications, and requirements to prepare accurate cost estimates for construction projects. They evaluate labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs to develop competitive bids and budgets. Construction Estimators collaborate with project managers, engineers, and clients to ensure estimates align with project goals and timelines. They also track project expenses, identify cost-saving opportunities, and adjust estimates as project details evolve. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and knowledge of construction methods and materials are essential for success in this role.

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Analyze project plans, specifications, and blueprints to determine materials, labor, and time requirements for construction projects
  • Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for bids, proposals, and budgets across various project types
  • Obtain and evaluate quotes from subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers to ensure competitive pricing
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and architects to clarify project scope and technical requirements
  • Conduct site visits to assess project conditions, gather data, and identify potential cost impacts or constraints
  • Review and update estimates based on changes in project scope, materials, or market conditions
  • Prepare and present cost summaries, bid documents, and value engineering recommendations to management or clients
  • Maintain cost databases and pricing libraries to support future estimating efforts and forecasting
  • Ensure estimates comply with industry standards, company policies, and client requirements
  • Participate in pre-construction meetings and assist in developing project schedules and risk assessments

Skills / Requirements / Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field preferred
  • Experience: 3–5 years of experience in construction estimating, preferably within commercial, residential, or industrial sectors
  • Technical Knowledge: Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, specifications, and technical drawings
  • Software Proficiency: Experience with estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, ProEst, Sage Estimating, or PlanSwift) and Microsoft Excel
  • Analytical Skills: Strong quantitative and analytical skills to evaluate costs, risks, and project feasibility
  • Attention to Detail: High degree of accuracy in cost calculations and data management
  • Communication: Effective communication skills for collaborating with clients, contractors, and internal teams
  • Time Management: Ability to manage multiple estimates, deadlines, and project priorities efficiently
