Short Description:

A Bank Teller is responsible for providing customer service by processing financial transactions such as deposits, withdrawals, and loan payments accurately and efficiently. They verify account information, balance cash drawers, and ensure compliance with bank policies and security procedures. Bank Tellers also answer customer inquiries, promote bank products and services, and assist with problem resolution. Strong attention to detail, customer service skills, and the ability to handle transactions securely are essential for success in this role.

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Process routine banking transactions, including deposits, withdrawals, check cashing, and loan payments
  • Balance cash drawers at the beginning and end of shifts, ensuring accuracy in all financial transactions
  • Verify customer identification and account information to prevent fraud and ensure compliance with bank policies
  • Handle customer inquiries, provide account information, and resolve basic banking issues in a professional manner
  • Promote bank products and services, such as credit cards, savings accounts, and loans, to meet customer needs
  • Maintain confidentiality of customer financial information and adhere to all banking regulations and security protocols
  • Prepare and process money orders, cashier’s checks, and other financial instruments
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures, including vault balancing and cash shipment preparation
  • Identify and report suspicious transactions in accordance with anti-money laundering (AML) and compliance regulations
  • Provide courteous and efficient customer service while maintaining a professional appearance and demeanor

Skills / Requirements / Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or GED required; associate’s degree in business, finance, or accounting preferred
  • Experience: Previous cash-handling or customer service experience, preferably in a banking or retail environment
  • Attention to Detail: Strong accuracy in handling cash and verifying transaction records
  • Customer Service: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with customers and colleagues
  • Mathematical Skills: Proficiency in basic math and the ability to calculate transactions quickly and accurately
  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with banking software systems, point-of-sale (POS) terminals, and Microsoft Office
  • Integrity: High level of trustworthiness and discretion when handling sensitive financial information
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to identify and resolve transaction discrepancies and customer concerns effectively
