Short Description:

An Assistant Store Manager supports the Store Manager in overseeing daily retail operations to ensure efficiency, profitability, and excellent customer service. They assist with staff supervision, training, scheduling, and performance management while maintaining store appearance and inventory control. Assistant Store Managers help implement sales strategies, monitor performance metrics, and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures. They also step in to manage the store in the absence of the Store Manager. Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills are essential for success in this role.

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Support the store manager in daily operations, including staffing, scheduling, and inventory control
  • Supervise and motivate store employees to achieve sales goals and deliver excellent customer service
  • Assist in training, coaching, and developing team members to ensure consistent performance and compliance with company policies
  • Oversee merchandising and visual display standards to maintain an appealing and organized sales floor
  • Monitor sales performance, analyze data, and assist in developing strategies to improve profitability
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety regulations, and loss prevention procedures
  • Handle customer inquiries, complaints, and escalations in a professional and solution-oriented manner
  • Manage cash handling, register operations, and financial reporting in collaboration with the store manager
  • Participate in inventory counts, stock replenishment, and ordering of merchandise
  • Act as the store manager in their absence, ensuring smooth store operations and team leadership

Skills / Requirements / Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or GED required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in business or retail management preferred
  • Experience: Previous retail experience, with at least 1–2 years in a supervisory or leadership role
  • Leadership: Strong ability to motivate, train, and manage a diverse team of employees
  • Customer Service: Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills to ensure customer satisfaction
  • Organization: Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and oversee multiple operational areas
  • Communication: Clear verbal and written communication skills for interacting with staff and management
  • Analytical Skills: Competence in analyzing sales data, KPIs, and operational reports to support business decisions
  • Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems, inventory management software, and basic computer applications
