A Welder is a skilled tradesperson who specializes in joining metal parts or components by melting them together using various welding techniques. Welders are vital in construction, manufacturing, and repair industries, where they contribute to the fabrication of structures, machinery, and equipment by ensuring strong, durable, and precise welds.

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Interpret and follow blueprints, schematics, or welding procedures to determine the appropriate welding process and requirements.
  • Prepare metal surfaces for welding by cleaning, cutting, or shaping them.
  • Set up and maintain welding equipment, including selecting the right welding method, electrodes, and gases.
  • Perform welding processes, such as arc welding, gas welding, or resistance welding, to join metal parts securely.
  • Monitor the welding process to ensure the quality, strength, and precision of the welds.
  • Inspect completed welds for defects and make any necessary repairs.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and quality control teams to ensure that welds meet industry and safety standards.
  • Maintain a safe and organized work environment, following safety protocols.
  • Continue education and training to stay current with welding techniques and technologies.
  • Complete welding certification programs and qualifications as required.

Skills / Requirements / Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent, with vocational training or welding certification preferred.
  • Proficiency in various welding techniques, such as arc welding, MIG welding, TIG welding, and gas welding.
  • Knowledge of different types of metals, their properties, and welding requirements.
  • Familiarity with welding equipment and tools, including safety measures.
  • Attention to detail and a steady hand for precise welding work.
  • Physical strength and dexterity to manipulate heavy metal components.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and technical drawings.
  • Good communication skills for working in a team and following safety procedures.
  • Experience as a welder or apprentice in a related role is often required.
