Job Description Video Editor

Short Description:

Responsible for editing moving images on film, video, or other media and may also edit or synchronize soundtracks with images.

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Determine the specific audio and visual effects and music necessary to complete films.
  • Organize and string together raw footage into a continuous whole according to scripts or the instructions of directors and producers.
  • Review assembled films or edited videotapes to determine if corrections are necessary.
  • Set up and operate computer editing systems, electronic titling systems, video switching equipment, and digital video effects units to produce a final product.
  • Trim film segments to specified lengths and reassemble segments in sequences that present stories with maximum effect.

  • Communication — Effectively communicating information and ideas, both written and oral.
  • Equipment Proficiency — Using cameras, editing tools, computers, and computer systems (including hardware and software) to edit video projects.
  • Planning and Prioritizing Work — Developing specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work within deadlines.
  • Thinking Creatively — Designing, editing, and/or creating new ideas, relationships, systems, or products, including artistic contributions.
  • Time Management — Managing projects, teams, and time to meet deadlines.
  • Updating Knowledge — Keeping up-to-date technically and applying new knowledge and tools.

  • Education: Most occupations in this zone require training in vocational schools, related on-the-job experience, or an associate's degree.
  • Related Experience: Previous work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is required for these occupations.
