Job Title: Senior Manufacturing Cost Accountant
Location: Bakersfield, CA (On-Site Required)

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Manufacturing Cost Accountant will be a critical financial partner to our clients Operations team, responsible for maintaining accurate cost data and providing actionable insights to drive efficiency and profitability.
Key duties include:
Cost Accounting & Reporting:
Oversee and manage the complete cost accounting cycle for all production and manufacturing activities.
Analyze and report on cost variances (material, labor, and overhead), providing detailed explanations and recommendations for corrective action.
Perform period-end close activities related to inventory and cost of goods sold (COGS).
Bill of Materials (BOM) & Standard Costing:
Crucially, lead the creation, maintenance, and regular review of Bills of Materials (BOMs) for all finished goods, ensuring accuracy in material and labor inputs.
Develop and update standard costs for new and existing products, including direct labor and overhead rates.
Partner with Engineering and Production teams to accurately define and record manufacturing routings and cycle times.
Manufacturing Floor Partnership:
Collaborate with Plant Management and production supervisors to understand processes on the manufacturing floor and identify opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency improvements.
Monitor and reconcile inventory transactions, including scrap, obsolete inventory, and cycle counts.
Compliance & Audit:
Ensure compliance with GAAP and company policies regarding cost and inventory valuation.

Qualifications

Experience: Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in cost accounting, specifically within the manufacturing/production industry (consumer goods).
Mandatory, hands-on experience in creating, implementing, and managing Bills of Materials (BOMs) and standard costing systems.
Demonstrated ability to interact with and understand processes on the production and manufacturing floor.
Education: Mandatory Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CMA certification is a plus.
Skills: Strong proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
