We are seeking a skilled and dependable Mechanic I to join our fleet team supporting government-owned vehicles and heavy equipment operations. This position is responsible for performing preventative maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and inspections to ensure vehicles and equipment remain safe, reliable, and operational. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience working with fleet vehicles, diesel engines, heavy equipment, hydraulic systems, brakes, suspension components, and preventative maintenance programs. Located in Valley Center, CA
Pay Rate: $34/hr(No Commercial Driver’s License)
$38/hr (With a Commercial Driver’s License, Class A)
Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
Summer Hours:
Monday – Friday, 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM
Responsibilities:
-Perform preventative maintenance including fluids, filters, belts, lubrication, and inspections
-Diagnose and repair engines, cooling systems, steering systems, suspension, brakes, and driveline components
-Repair and replace tires on vehicles and heavy equipment
-Maintain and repair hydraulic systems including pumps, hoses, and cylinders
-Operate shop equipment including lifts, tire changers, balancers, and diagnostic tools
-Complete electronic service records and maintain inventory of parts and supplies
-Conduct safety inspections and identify mechanical issues or hazards
-Support fleet operations with timely repairs and strong customer service
Qualifications & Requirements:
-High School Diploma or GED required
-Minimum 3 years of mechanic experience, including fleet vehicle preventative maintenance; heavy equipment experience preferred
Experience with diagnostic tools such as Snap-on or equivalent, along with shop equipment and power tools
--Familiarity with General Motors, CAT, Peterbilt, and John Deere equipment is a plus
-Strong troubleshooting, mechanical diagnostic, and problem-solving abilities
-Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and maintain strong attention to detail and safety standards
-Basic computer proficiency including Microsoft Office and electronic work order systems
-Valid California Driver’s License with a clean driving record required; ability to obtain a California Class A License within one year of employment
-ASE certifications or completion of an automotive mechanic program preferred
-Must be able to stand, bend, lift, climb, and work in outdoor and shop environments, including lifting up to 50–75 lbs and working around machinery, tools, noise, and varying weather conditions
