Accounting/Audit/Tax openings?
Posted: 02 Mar 2005 01:15 AM
Hi there!

I just registered with Appleone and came across this wonderful forum. Keep up this good work.. Appleone!

Well.. I signed up with Appleone hoping to find some good openings in either of Accounting/Audit/Tax areas. However I am not sure if Appleone is right place to go about it. I am a CPA student, though almost done(passed 3/4). I am Bachelors and Masters in Business Admn from foreign country and had been busy with CPA all this while now. So I have no experience in this field at all and no exp in U.S. So I think I should be starting with an entry level/temp/part time/ or if full time jobs in either of these fields to get my way into the system. But not sure what to look for in this regard. So far.. I had not been quite unsuccessful in finding suitable openings coz of lack of exp. So signed up with Appleone hoping for something good. So wondering.. is it the right place I m here now? What else I shd try? Any info anyone? Thanks for your time.

I am sort of in the same shoes with you. I have no experience in accounting. My major is actually finance, but thought that a basic background in accounting will take me far once I get experience and know what I am doing. I have one semester left until I get my bachelors in bus adm from CSU Fullerton and would like to know that I have a solid background in my field of interest.I just posted my application and signed up today so we'll see what happens.

I wish you both luck. If you are looking for an entry level position AppleOne is a great place. I have realized that AppleOne's upper level accounting positions are few and far between.

Go to MonsterJobs.com and post a resume. You will get many companies similar to AppleOne calling you.

If you're looking for upper level accounting jobs, you might also consider Accounting Advantage. www.actadv.com. That is an AppleOne company that specifically handles those types of positions.

First off, Appleone just posts jobs on the internet, mainly at monster.com to attract resumes. The jobs really do not exist. How do I know? Well I have sent them my resume on many jobs and they ignore the resumes and pick the cream of the crop.

As for your experience, let me provide you a little insight about everyone saying that you need experience. Let me tell you a little story.

Once upon a time, I did not have experience when looking for a job, so right out of college I worked for a regulatory agency for 2 and 1/2 years. Then I went looking for a job to bring in a better salary.

Everyone said we would love to hire you but you have no public acccounting experience.

So I joined a small CPA firm and worked for two years. Then to better my salary, I went job hunting.

They all said, we would love to hire you, but you still do not have your CPA.

I went and passed the CPA exam. I went job hunting again.

They all said: we would love to hire you, but you need more regional firm experience.

So I joined a large regional CPA firm and worked for 2 more years. Then I went job hunting to improve my salary.

They all said: we would love to hire you, but you need Big 4 experience.

So I joined a Big 4 and worked for 2 more years. Then I went job hunting to improve my salary.

They all said we would love to hire you, but you need more executive management experience.

So I became a CFO for 2 years. Then I went lookin for a new job.

They all said: we would love to hire you, but we would like another certification, like a CIA, CISA, CFE, or a CVA. So I went and passed the CVA exam. Now I am a CVA.

Now I am in the job market and you know what the problem is? I have too much experience and they are only looking to hire entry level positions.

What are the lessons learned?

People That Do Not Want to Hire You Are Giving You Excuses:

People will tell you they will not hire you because you do not have your CPA and or experience but really they are saying they do not want to hire you and they are giving you the excuses.

To Advance Your Salary You Must Job Hop & Be A Hired Gun / Mercenary

Do not be a fool and remain loyal to your company and or firm. Instead, jump whenever someone offers you 20-25% to leave your position. Do not accept counter-offers. It is the only way to adavance your salary in the accounting field.

When You do Have the Designations and the Experience They Desire They Will All Attempt to Underpay You:

They will be very happy to have your experience and your various certifications [+they will make a lot of money off of you, but you will really never see a portion of the profits]; however, you will quickly see that everyone is very cheap in the marketplace. Employers in the job market have champayne tastes on a beer budget.

Do not sweat these people. They are very much like used car salesmen.

Of course AppleOne wants to pick the cream of the crop. That's what our clients expect of us. Some of our clients may be interested in a hired gun who views employers and potential employers as adversaries and who will job hop at the drop of a hat to drive up their salary. If that's a strategy that works for you, then more power to you.

However, just as many, and probably a lot more would not look favorably on somebody with that kind of employment history or attitude.

If you didn't get offered a job or an interview, I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that it's because the job doesn't exist. You're free to do that if you'd like, but for myself, I'd start with the assumption that there was somebody else that the AE chose to submit to their client before they submitted you. Everybody isn't right for every job, and unfortunately, AppleOne can't always help everybody who comes to us looking for employment. We try, and since our focus is applicant centered as opposed to client centered, I think we do better than most in our industry. However, sometimes the timing just isn't right.

ILBarko does sound a little upset, but I do have to admit that I signed up with AppleOne and 6 months later I saw the perfect job being advertised by AppleOne. I called my representative at AppleOne and was told that position was already filled, they just leave those really good job posting on the internet to get people to call. This is the same way I ended up signing up in the first place. Maybe it is a coincidence?? I can't say for sure.

As for job hopping, I am not that type of person, but I think most feel they are not being paid what they are worth. I certainly fall in that category.

Discussion Moderator, I will check with your other company for mid to upper level accounting positions. Thanks for the information.

I am not sure if I can post this here, but the federal government is hiring for many positions in accounting, audit, and tax openings. The website is USAjobs.gov.
