Resolving Conflict in the Workplace and Beyond
by Dianna Booher

Conflicts are inevitable. But everyday problems can be conquered so relationships are built, not opportunities lost.

People who never experience conflict on the job are either living in a dream world, blind to their surroundings, or in solitary confinement! Because whenever two or three are gathered in any community for any reason at any time, there will inevitably be some form or degree of dissention, difficulty, or difference of opinion.

Showing Support for Your Employees

A good manager creates conditions that are conducive to employee success. Both personal and professional factors can create challenging situations for workers that can become "perfect storms" of stress. These include off the job events like a death in the family, a divorce, or a new child. Examples of internal situations are personality conflicts in the workplace or disagreements over policy. When you are managing a team, one of the admonitions is not to choose favorites or take sides. But there are certain situations where you are called on to support your people and go to bat for them. The Power of Full Engagement: Managing Energy, Not Time, Is the Key to High Performance and Personal Renewal
by Jim Loehr, Tony Schwartz

Much has been written about the importance of managing time, but The Power of Full Engagement tackles another daily dilemma that professionals face - managing their energy. Supervisors looking to up their energy levels and minimize stress will appreciate these strategies and case studies of people from all walks of life who have managed to do it.

Q. I was recently promoted to head a small department and just learned that one of the hardest working members on our team is leaving to relocate with her husband. Upon reviewing her employee file, I found that she was placed by AppleOne. Also in her file is a guarantee certificate from your company. I am not familiar with how this works and am not sure if the employee is still covered by the guarantee since she has been working in the company for a little over a year. I am wondering if you can help me.

A. Congratulations on your recent promotion! What you probably have is the certificate for AppleOne's 5•50 Assurance Program direct hire placement. With the 5•50, AppleOne secures your company's hiring investment for up to five full years. If an employee placed by AppleOne leaves for any reason after 30 days, we provide a free replacement. If they leave within 90 days, we provide a free replacement or prorated refund. If an employee leaves for any reason after 90 days and up to 5 years, we will replace them at half your original direct hire fee. The AppleOne Account Executive servicing your company can explain more about the program or how you can redeem your guarantee.
