AppleOne CEO Receives Two Entrepreneur Honors
AppleOne is pleased to announce that our CEO, Janice Bryant Howroyd, is the recipient of two prestigious honors: Viacom network's The BET Honors Entrepreneur of 2008 and the Honor Society of Beta Gamma Sigma's Entrepreneur of the Year. During her illustrious career, Janice has been described as innovative, trailblazing, stellar, focused, inspired and a true partner. She has won numerous awards, including the 2005 Spirit of American Enterprise Presidential Award and the 2007 Outstanding Entrepreneur Award.
Inspiring Pride and Hope
On Saturday, January 12, 2008 Janice shone alongside luminaries Alicia Keys, Dr. Cornel West, Maxine Waters, Richard Parsons and Tyra Banks during the inaugural BET Honors awards at the historic Warner Theater in Washington, DC. As a whole, these phenomenal individuals represent some of today's most exemplary African Americans.
"These inspiring individuals have distinguished themselves professionally in their respective fields, have given back to the community in a significant way and show us that we can be anything in the world that we can dream. Their achievements encourage us, their energy motivates us and their creativity inspires us—and we thank them for that!" says Debra Lee, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, BET Networks.
A Rare Distinction
Just a few days later, Janice was informed that she had been unanimously voted as Entrepreneur of the Year by the Honor Society of Beta Gamma Sigma. As an international organization recognized by business executives everywhere, a nod from this prestigious organization distinguishes Janice among her peers and in business communities throughout the world.
Beta Gamma Sigma is an honor society for business students and scholars. Founded in 1913, it has over 580,000 members. Originally a US organization, it has in recent years added collegiate chapters in Australia, Canada, Egypt, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hong Kong, Mexico, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Taiwan, The Netherlands and United Arab Emirates. The aim of Beta Gamma Sigma is to encourage and honor academic achievement in the study of business and to foster personal and professional excellence among its inducted members. Despite its massive size and membership, awards from Beta Gamma Sigma are granted only after stringent selection, and Janice's uncontested win speaks volumes of her and her organization's commitment to business ethics and excellence.
As much weight and recognition as these awards bring, they are only two of the newest to be added on Janice's mantle. "More than anything today, people want balanced lives," says Janice. "This requires decent wages, and job and career opportunities with growth. Any awards I've received are acknowledgement that we're getting this right!" Last year, our CEO was named Outstanding Entrepreneur by the Texas Association of African American Chamber of Commerce. She was also honored by the North Carolina Institute of Minority Economic Development as Top Woman Business Owner. She also made Black Enterprise's list of the 50 Most Powerful Women in Business based on entrepreneurial leadership and Ebony's 100 Most Influential. In 2006, Janice was twice named by the Star Group as one of the 50 Leading Women Entrepreneurs of the World.
The True Measure of Success
All the accolades are understandable. As the CEO of AppleOne, the largest privately held full-service staffing provider in North America, Janice has created a company culture that is committed to developing a keen understanding of the clients' needs—usually long before they knew what they needed and in less time any other provider in the industry. While Janice values every recognition she receives, nothing compares to the trust she works to earn every day through AppleOne's vast network of offices. To her, each new client and each new hire that is entrusted to AppleOne is an acknowledgement of her and her organization's sincere desire to help their customers succeed in their particular fields. "We work in the greatest industry on earth," says Janice. "We help great companies and great people find their matches! This is something I am proud of and will stay committed to."
