Q.  I was looking through your 2008 salary guide, which is great by the way, thanks. I was just wondering what the salary variances were and how I should use those.

A.  The salaries provided in our guide represent an average national salary. Due to regional variances, some cities will generally pay more or less than the national average. The salary variances allow you to personalize the salaries for specific locations.

For instance, if a salary was $100,000 nationally, and you wanted to know the salary in a city with a 90% salary variance, then you could multiply 100,000 by .9 to determine that in that city, that job would typically pay $90,000.
