Q.I loved my old boss, but she left a few months ago. I don't like the new guy at all, and now I'm miserable at work. What can I do?

A. There's no doubt that a good or bad supervisor can impact your enjoyment of a job, and change is frequently disruptive and unsettling. Particularly if you like the other aspects of your job, the first thing you might want to consider is giving things a little more time to settle down. The new manager is trying to put their mark on the department, and it can take a fair amount of time for minor differences to work themselves out. You may well find that 3 months from now, you're happier than you were before.

With that said, you spend a large portion of your day at work, and you owe it to yourself to be happy during that time. If you feel like you've given the new situation as much time as you can, and you aren't happy in other aspects of your job, then it may be time to start thinking about looking for other opportunities.
